I hold credentials as Physician Certified in Wound Care by the Council on Medical Education and Testing (CMET). I am a founding fellow of the Academy of Physicians in Wound Healing and a fellow in the American Professional Wound Care Association. I also hold peer-reviewed member status in the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics and Medicine. I am certified by the American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry holding diplomat status in Prevention and Treatment of Diabetic Foot Ulcers including Shoe Therapy. I graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Education and in Human Ecology. After teaching Health Occupations Education, Science and Child Development Education at the adult and high school levels for 8 years, I attended Cal Poly Technic University at San Luis Obispo, CA where I completed graduate studies in biology, biochemistry and microbiology and obtained a post-graduate certificate in Education. I earned the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the California School of Podiatric Medicine at Samuel Merritt University. Dr. Waller-Niewold completed a research fellowship in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Problem Diabetic Foot Wounds at DGMC. This fellowship was part of a larger study protocol funded jointly by the Department of Defense and the VA Medical Centers. Dr. Waller-Niewold’s findings, along with her co-investigators, were published in the Journal of Rehabilitative Medicine in 1994. She has also written a chapter on Prophylactic Foot Surgery in the Diabetic Patient, published in the textbook, Forefoot Surgery, 1995.
